KRISTEN HENDERSON IS MY HERO EVEN THOUGH SHE USES MACS

KRISTEN HENDERSON RALLIES

Comrades, join us in our state-wide rallies to commemorate Kristen Henderson "hero worthy" moments, even though she uses Macs!

Negative Lane
4 STARS

(May 30, 2003 - Village Underground, NYC)

Let's play a little role reversal: If Antigone Rising sold coffee instead of live music. Well, anytime someone comes in to order coffe, they'd have to first harass, harangle, and hoodwink the barista with a 2,500 word essay citing a minimum of 5 sources in compliance with MLA style guides as to why it would be in the barista's best interest to make the poor sap the coffee in the first place. Once convinced, the barista would then hop on a plane and fly to Guatemala where the coffee seedling would be planted. After about five years of diligent watering and care, the beans could then be harvested, processed, hulled, and shipped back into the country for roasting. The barista would then be trained in the ways of roasting and brewing coffee. After successfully passing all quality control tests, the barista will finally play Negative Lane, I mean make that coffee for you. Luckily, I don't drink coffee but I did want to hear Negative Lane live once though and apparently, it's a similar process. Sure, laugh but having your Negative Lane request honored still requires less effort than making a studio cd. The band is currently in some foreign land drilling for oil because you can't make cds without petroleum for the plastic. Chemistry is a hard subject and not all band members have successfully mastered it yet. When they said they're in the studios "making a cd", they meant literally. Why do you think it's taking so long?

- Kristen Henderson

Negative Lane is not a love song. It is the anthem of the proletariat, the battle cry against the elite for forgetting the working class. However, we're not here to discuss the merits of what is already known to be a great song. We're here to honor the hero-worthy moments of Kristen Henderson as it relates to performing Negative Lane live, particularly the encore performance at the Village Underground.

Antigone Rising
The Fumble and
Recovery Cam

During the second verse of the song, Cassidy strayed from her usual area into hero territory. She sang towards Kristen's general direction but just when Kristen was about to share the mic during the line "Radio songs all sound the same", Cassidy totally peaced out and left our hero hanging! Our hero remained calm during this moment of crisis and recovered to find her own mic. She averted potential disaster without losing her rhythm or her cool. For your convenience, the People's Commissar of Hero Awareness has provided a clip of this incident in slow-motion via the "Fumble and Recovery Cam". Let's watch that again, shall we? And again. Rewind. One more time. The penalty is declined, repeat first down!

Wait, that is not all. To a sold out crowd at the Village Underground, Kristen non-chalantly harmonized "scrotum sac of shame" in the last chorus without missing a beat. She also didn't miss the choreographed bow at the end of the song after both times they performed Negative Lane, which can't be said for some of her bandmates. In recognition of the little things that made the anthem so memorable, this KHendo Rally hangs its hat up on Negative Lane.
